Once we receive your information, we’ll recommend a therapist who may be the best fit for your needs, and they will reach out to set up a free 15-minute virtual consultation.

During this consultation, you can ask questions, share your goals, and get to know the therapist. From there, we’ll work together to set up ongoing sessions that feel safe, supportive, and tailored to you or your family.

Your first session is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know each other. You can share what you would like to, and discuss your goals for therapy.

During this session, your therapist will:

• Ask questions about your experiences, concerns, and what brought you to therapy

• Explain our approach, methods, and what therapy might look like for you

• Discuss session structure, scheduling, and any practical details

• Answer any questions you have about the process

It’s completely normal for children and teens to feel nervous or unsure about starting therapy. At Connected Roots Therapy, we move at your child’s pace and focus on creating a supportive environment where they feel comfortable.

We use gentle, relationship-focused approaches that help build trust and connection. Often, children begin by exploring therapy in small steps—through conversation, play, or creative activities—so they feel empowered and in control.

We also work closely with parents and caregivers, providing guidance and support to help your child feel understood, safe, and supported throughout the process.

It is helpful for many children and teens if they attend the consult with a parent/caregiver initially to meet their potential therapist. Additionally, attending the first session with your child/teen can provide added comfort as they get to know their therapist.

At Connected Roots we strongly believe in parent/caregiver’s participation in therapy. The extent of this participation will vary depending on your child/teen’s needs and preferences, as well as age. Your child/teen’s therapist will sort this out together with your child/youth at the start of service. Sometimes, we may have parent/caregiver check ins at end of session, or be there for parts of the session. What is shared with you will be based on your child/teen’s consent.

For virtual sessions, we ask that a parent/caregiver is home during sessions, even if not part of the session.

At Connected Roots Therapy, our standard rate is $180 for a 50-minute session. We accept e-transfer, and alternative payment methods are available upon request. Payments are due at the time of the session, and we do not offer direct billing.

We provide receipts for insurance or workplace benefits where applicable. If cost is a concern, we’re happy to discuss options to help you access the support you need.

At Connected Roots Therapy, our therapists are Registered Social Workers. As such, we are unable to make any diagnosis, including those of ADHD & Autism. For an assessment and diagnosis, you will need to see a psychologist.

At Connected Roots Therapy, our therapists are all Registered Social Workers. We are not permitted or qualified to prescribe medication or make any medication recommendations. If you are seeking medication, please speak to your family doctor or psychiatrist.

As Registered Social Workers, we cannot provide medical advice including information about insulin and dosage. We support those living with T1D from a mental health lens only. Please reach out to your medical team for medical advice. We are happy to collaborate with your or your child/teen’s medical team.

At Connected Roots Therapy, protecting your privacy is a top priority. We follow strict professional and ethical standards to ensure that all information shared in therapy remains confidential.

We use a secure, encrypted practice management system to store client records, and access is granted only on an as-needed basis. Any communication or record-keeping is handled professionally and safely, and we routinely back up data to protect it.

When appropriate, and only with your consent, limited information may be shared with other members of your care team to ensure coordinated, high-quality support.

Yes. Many families reach out when things feel really hard — and that’s okay. Adoption-competent therapy can help you make sense of what’s happening, support your child through big emotions or transitions, and find a way forward together, even during crisis.
