Joanne Tucker
Hi, I'm Joanne (she/her), a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who works with children, adolescents, adults, and caregivers navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, chronic illness, relationship challenges, and the many moments in life that leave us feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from ourselves.
I believe that healing begins in relationships where we feel safe enough to be fully ourselves. My approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply curious. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, I work to understand the whole person—the experiences, relationships, and patterns that have shaped you—and help you move toward greater self-understanding, resilience, and connection.
Living with Type 1 Diabetes has profoundly shaped both my life and my work as a therapist. I understand firsthand that chronic illness affects far more than physical health—it can influence identity, relationships, family dynamics, anxiety, grief, and the constant emotional work of adapting to uncertainty. This lived experience allows me to bring a unique perspective and deep empathy when supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families living with diabetes or other chronic health conditions.
My work draws from attachment-based, somatic, and trauma-informed approaches, including EMDR, while always adapting therapy to each person's unique needs. Whether we're exploring the impact of past experiences, learning to regulate an overwhelmed nervous system, strengthening relationships, or navigating the challenges of everyday life, I aim to create a space where you feel genuinely seen, supported, and empowered to move forward.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years working in healthcare and medical education, experiences that continue to shape my understanding of the complex intersections between physical health, emotional well-being, caregiving, and healthcare systems.
Outside of therapy, you'll often find me spending time with my family, tending my garden, enjoying nature, or getting lost in a good book. These moments remind me of the importance of slowing down, staying connected, and finding meaning in the everyday—values I bring into my work with clients.
If you're looking for a therapist who will meet you with compassion, curiosity, and respect for your unique story, I'd be honoured to be part of your journey.
